It gave me blue screen of death as well. I did not even click the button rapidly. I turned it off and then on once and it worked perfectly. The second time it froze up Flash then a second later gave me blue screen of death.

Thank you for your answer. I will test further and update the driver. If find something I’ll info you. I think there’s something wrong with default driver of Windows 7. My webcam is a Philips SPC500NC. I also test in my Dell laptop and nothing special happen.

my gut reaction is that this is not related to my code.
It sounds like a driver problem to me. I tested clicking the button rapidly, and although it was a bit sluggish, it performed as expected.

You could try updating drivers for your camera, and also consider that a recent change in your operating system might have caused the problem. You could also try other applications that don’t use my code, but use the camera and see what happens to your system then.

Unless others can reproduce I won’t look into this further. Sorry you are having this issue.

I’ve played with the example and have a Blue of Deatch crash. I can not say exactly what cause that crash because after I’ve pressed Allow in ‘Permisson Panel’, my computer restarted immediately. My computer also crash when I click the button ‘Turn On/Off’ in the example rapidly.

@Jeffery I have seen this problem finally in my own personal life. Yes it is a huge pain in the ass. If you require a Camera in your flash app, you should definitely provide help on why your camera was not detected. It could be another app is already using it, or this google adapter issue. (and if you find any others tell me!)

@Kalle Certainly interesting that the camera light turns on, but the NO_CAMERAS code is the result.
If you could send steps to reproduce or at least more details that would be spectacular.

Hey,
well i have an report too, that on some computers the camera is not detected proberly…

* CameraDetectionEvent.RESOLVE fires
* camera light goes on ( mac )
* CameraDetectionResult.NO_CAMERAS fires

it works fine on my mac… i try to find a buggy one and report back…

One thing I think worth mentioning to potential passerbys is a bug I’ve been following on the Adobe Bugbase. Essentially, with the latest update of OS X, Flash cameras are malfunctioning on websites. (https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-5730). A similar bug is listed on Apple’s site.

The solution is to get rid of the Google camera definitions, as listed on the Adobe site.

Hi,

First, I would like to thank you for this very useful cameraDetection class.

I’m a french developer, and use your library to detect cameras on this website : http://www.thephotocabine.com

It works fine, and I think you’ll be happy to have some statistical infos about how it works (I made a log script to “track” results)

For 20 000 unique visitors (in about 4 days) :
- 10% are not detected but have a null Camera.names string (so it works as it should)
- 14% are not detected but have a non null Camera.names string (85% pc / 15% mac)

So the detection is 86% ok ! Your class is the only existing one able to do this :-)

If you want the raw data i can send it to you in an excel file.

The program shows errors when there are no cameras installed. You should add an error check in the default camera getter function.
